The Applied Cognitive Psychology ASRI, comprising a
diverse group of researchers from the School of
Psychology and elsewhere within the university, was
established in the begining of 2006. Applied
cognitive psychology addresses a diverse array of
contemporary human phenomena, suggesting practical
solutions for many real world problems. Our
concentration of internationally renowned researchers
in fundamental areas of human cognition applies
cognitive psychological principles to practical
issues as diverse as autism, brain function in
psychopathology, decision making, eating disorders,
eyewitness memory, human adaptation throughout the
lifespan, social justice, trauma reactions, and sleep disorders.
Broadly, these research programs cover the
application of psychological theory and principles to
problems faced by individuals and groups within the
community. The success of the group is evidenced by
the volume of publications in peer reviewed, high
impact international journals; success in obtaining
competitive grant funding from peak research funding
bodies such as the ARC and NH&MRC; PhD completion
rates; and the involvement of members in the
editorial processes of major journals. The Applied
Cognitive Psychology ASRI welcomes enquires about
programs of research, opportunities for
collaboration, and postgraduate study.
